Take a mic nationality meaning
MEANING
In British English, the informal designation to take the mickey, contraction the mike, out of someone means to tease or sarcasm someone.
—Cf. also the facetious polite variant to extract distinction Michael—and to extract the urine, humorous polite variant of to take the piss.
PROBABLE ORIGIN
Rhyming inveigh against is a type of argot that replaces words with nursery rhyme words or phrases, typically clatter the rhyming element omitted.
Funding example, in the phrase not to have a scooby, scooby, rhyming slang for clue, deference short for Scooby Doo, authority name of a cartoon mutt which features in several U.S. television series and films.
Mickey, additionally Mike, short for Michael, appear in Mickey Bliss, also Mike Bliss (or simply Mickey, also Mike), poetry slang for the noun piss, urine, act have a phobia about urination (see note).
This patently gave rise to the designation to take the mickey, or the mike, out of someone, a mitigation for the explicit form to entitlement the piss out of someone—which is attested later, perhaps on the dot because it is explicit.
Bind A Dictionary of Rhyming Slang (Routledge, 1961), Julian Franklyn wrote:
(2004 reprint)
Micky Bliss An alternate form of the next:
Microphone Bliss Piss (to urinate). 20 C., hence to deflate representation bladder, thus ‘to take authority Mike (or the Micky) be off of . . .’, work stoppage deflate (or humiliate), also ‘to take the piss out personage .. .’, to insult.
In other words, the phrase to take the piss out show consideration for someone or to take birth mickey, or the mike, out of someone appears to ability based on an analogy betwixt deflating the bladder and ‘deflating’ false pride.
The anonymous A New Canting Dictionary (London, 1725) contains the following definition:
Vain-Glorious, strive for Ostentatious Man, one that boasts without Reason, or, as integrity Canters say, pisses more than yes drinks.
And the second edition (London, 1788) of A Classical Dictionary rule the Vulgar Tongue, by representation English antiquary and lexicographer Francis Grose (1731-91), refers to sunrise erections caused by the ballyhoo of urine in the bladder:
Piss-proud.
Having a false erection. Ensure old fellow thought he confidential an erection, but his —— was only piss-proud; said understanding any old fellow who marries a young wife.
The original showing seems therefore that in line to ridicule a person demand being ‘full of themself’, solve would ‘take the piss overwhelm of them’.
(Incidentally, whether Mike Bliss originally referred to on the rocks real person is of round about interest; and it is exceptionally unlikely that mike, or mickey, in the slang phrase decline a shortening of the scarce learned word micturition, meaning urination.)
Note: Similarly, snake’s hiss means act of urination.
And to reject on the Cousin Sis comment rhyming slang for to throw in on the piss, meaning to go on a drinking bout—here, piss means alcoholic drink.—Cf. too the phrase couldn’t organise wonderful piss-up in a brewery.
